Fleurs

If there is a sweeter scent than a bloom of lilac, I haven't discovered it yet. When my nose recognizes the smell, it's as if I'm remembering a summer romance that I haven't experienced yet - full of sentimentality without the sadness of lost time.

I'm a huge believer in flowers and their ability to let us enjoy life. They reward you for relaxing. The softer scents force you to close your eyes and inhale deep...slowly, deeper and deeper, until the sweetness at last curls up. The fuller scents entice a stop in the tracks, like love at first sight. They provide an instant change of perception, like, everything makes sense, just for a moment.

A bouquet of flowers reminds me that we will all bloom; perhaps differently and in our own time, but we will. It reminds me never to take a person at face value; if their beauty isn't noticeable yet, to stick around until it blossoms. It always does.
